History

The Nebelung cat breed was developed by Cora Cobb from the Nebelheim cat breed. Cobb was inspired by a kitten named Siegfried, the only long-haired blue kitten in a litter, born to a long-haired black cat and born to a short-haired black cat named Elsa.

A second litter produced a long-haired blue kitten Cobb named Brunhilde. Siegfried and Brunhilde formed the basis for a new breeding program and gave birth to their first litter in 1986.

Russian blues, which carried the gene for long hair, was imported from Eastern Europe in the late 1980s and helped develop the breed. The International Cat Association granted cats new breed status in 1987 and full recognition in 1997. Nebelungs can be ironed with Russian Blues.

Nebelung is also recognized by the Cat Fanciers Federation and the Traditional Cat Association.

Size

Nebelung is a medium-sized cat with a long body.

They usually weigh between seven and 15 kilos, with women generally shorter than men. However, some Nebelungs may be outside this area.

Personality

Nebelung is considered a docile, calm cat, a little shy, but not wrong. This cat can be reserved, but it loves to play - it especially loves to pick up - and has to jump or climb to high places where it can calmly study people and situations before deciding if you want to join us.

Guests will not get this cat immediate attention and can never see them if they decide people are worthy of their attention, but Nebelung is always loyal to family members, especially they prefer person, follow them around the house and even ride on one shoulder.

Nebelung is a sensitive cat that does not like to be ignored and hurt if it does not get the same love that they give. Lack of attention can make them feel anxious or anxious.

While Nebelung loves your business, they can entertain each other during the day while you are at work. Unlike some active, intelligent races, they are not destructive, but rather move around the house with the agile grace of the Russian ballerina.

At home, her subtle humor and craftsmanship are always fun. Just make sure you laugh with them, not at them. They have a strong self-esteem and do not like to make fun of them.

This is a cat that does best in a calm and stable environment. They do not like change and it is especially important for them that the meals arrive on time. Trust that they will be a faithful alarm clock in the morning - not that you do not miss a job, but that you do not miss a meal.

If you take the time to develop a relationship with a Nebelung, your reward will be a deep bond with this loving cat.

Health

Both pedigree and mixed breed cats have different frequencies of health problems that can be genetic. But Nebelung is generally healthy.

An owner's main concern is likely to be this cat's strong appetite, which can make them from smooth to powerful in no time.

Care

The long, thick fur of the Nebelung should be combed twice a week to remove dead hair and distribute skin oils.

Brush the teeth to prevent periodontal disease. Daily dental hygiene is best, but weekly brushing is better than nothing. Cut the nails every two weeks.

Wipe the eyes with a soft, damp cloth to remove any discharge. Use a separate area of the cloth for each eye so that you do not risk spreading an infection.

Check the ears every week. If they look dirty, wipe them with a cotton ball or a soft, damp cloth dampened with a 50-50 mixture of apple cider vinegar and warm water. Avoid using cotton swabs, which can damage the inside of the ear.

Keep Nebelung's dustbin clean. They are very careful with bathroom hygiene, and a clean litter box also helps keep the coat clean.

It is a good idea to keep a Nebelung as an indoor cat only to protect it from diseases transmitted by other cats, attacks from dogs or coyotes and other dangers that cats face when they go outside, for example: B. to be hit by a car. Nebelungs that go outside also risk being stolen by someone who wants such a beautiful cat without paying for it.

Fur color and grooming

Nebelung looks very similar to the elegant yet muscular Russian blue, but with a thick, shimmery, medium coat. Their general appearance is a tall, strong, muscular cat.

The International Cat Association's breed standard for Nebelung requires that they have a modified wedge-shaped head that is more pointed than rounded, although the long hair can give the head a rounded appearance. Large ears are broad at the base with pointed tips and deep, deep green eyes have a slightly oval shape and are far apart.

Kittens may have yellow-green eyes, but after two years they should have turned light green after maturation. The nasal plate is anthracite gray.

A long, narrow neck sometimes seems shorter than it actually is due to the thick fur on the Nebelung. The body is said to be semi-foreign, which means that it is of moderate shape and is somewhere between the short, compact body of races like the Persians and the narrow angles of oriental races like the Siamese. It is athletic but not bulky, with a medium-sized body that is well proportioned.

The body is carried by long, medium-sized legs on medium-sized, well-rounded oval paws with generous tufts between the toes. Nebelung looks like it's on its feet. Their tail is at least as long as the body from the shoulder blades to the back end and covered with fur that is longer than the body hair.

Nebelung is characterized by its luxurious fur and striking color. A medium-length, double coat covers the body, which increases in length from the shoulder to the tail.

Males have a pronounced ruff, but females are not as well equipped. Behind the ears is the feather in a lighter shade of blue. The coat that covers the back of the thighs gives Nebelung the look of wearing pants. The top coat is fine and silky smooth and covers an undercoat that is soft and downy.

The coat usually does not fully develop until two years of age. In winter it is thicker, longer and softer.

To the uninitiated, Nebelung may look gray, but when it comes to cat shows, they are blue to the roots. It is ideal if the coat is fitted with silver tips, which makes the coat sparkle, but often silver tips are only noticeable on the head and shoulders.

Some Nebelung kittens are born with "ghost stripes," a reminder of the tabby gene that all cats wear even when not expressed in their fur, but these generally fade, leaving the cat with the firm blue fur maturity.

Children and other pets

Nebelungs have a tolerant nature towards children, who treat them kindly and respectfully, but they can be wary of younger children who clumsily pat them. Always supervise very young children when they want to pet the cat.

Nebelung accepts other animals, including dogs, as long as they are not persecuted or threatened by them. Introduce pets slowly and under controlled conditions to ensure that they learn to get along with each other.
